About
Interested in booking a surgery day and would like to know how it looks?
Once you have a date confirmed, we will contact you a week prior to get the eye count and start time. We will be there the day before to get the lasers in the room and calibrated. We prefer to have after-hours access to the surgery center to avoid setting up around patients. On the surgery day, we arrive at least an hour prior to start time to calibrate the lasers again and set up for surgeries. Once the surgery is complete we pack up and head to the next account.
The typical Lasik day flow is: a patient arrives and Erin scans them on the iDesign (if the doctors do custom treatments). While the doctor is selecting the treatment and/or confirming the numbers with Erin, someone from the surgery center is having them sign consents. Then the patient is taken to the OR where Erin runs the VISX and John runs the Femto and passes instruments.
We take pride in what we do and our main goal is to minimize any stress for the doctors and surgical staff. That said, we have slightly different protocols for every single account! Every doctor does things a little differently and we are able to adjust!
We understand it can be stressful for surgical staff to have to work lasik days when they only do it monthly, so we take that stress out by helping any way we can! Even doctors have expressed their gratitude for the knowledge and expertise we provide.
We are also aware that the doctors, patients, and surgical staff’s time are extremely valuable. A typical lasik day for us is 4 patients per hour. With the way things flow the patient never feels rushed and has time to ask the doctor plenty of questions!
We are happy to give referrals if you’d like to speak to one of our clients.
Meet The Team
JOHN PENNINGTON
His career in the field of ophthalmology began in 1999. He prefers to not say out loud how many years that is! After a decade of working as a technician and then operations manager for another company, he had an amazing opportunity to branch out on his own. In 2009, he started PennVista with his wife, Erin.
ERIN PENNINGTON
Before PennVista, Erin worked in accounting for 14 years. When John decided to go out on his own, she was instantly on board! She is the go-to person - slightly attached to her phone and thrives to provide the best customer service. She loves working with patients but truly loves the bonds she has made with the clients.
When they aren’t in the OR, John loves customizing his next car, all things Star Wars, and the Mountaineers. Erin loves to train for charity endurance events. Her favorite event is Bike MS Escape to The Lake. She looks forward to it every year! Together, they can be found at the occasional Cars and Coffee, a Pens game, or Dave and Busters with their nieces and nephews!
Through their continual efforts, and the support of their loyal customers, PennVista has gradually grown, allowing them to branch out and offer new services.
